Nasarawa Varsity to inject N3bn into 2 new programmes

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Ibrahim Muhammed Haruna,has disclosed that the university would be expending N3 billion for the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering and College of Medicine.

Prof. Haruna in an exclusive chat with The AUTHORITY in his office in Keffi on Wednesday, commended the Nasarawa State Government for its wisdom to establish the University,which he said has opened up a window of opportunities for both learning and human capital development.

According to him,TETFund has offered to support the institution with a High Impact Intervention, which will be used for the purchase of all equipment in the College of Medicine and that part of the money will also be channelled for the partitioning work in the Faculty of Engineering.

Prof. Haruna also revealed that Engr Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, who is also the visitor to the University, has made a personal donation of N20 million for the takeoff of the Faculty of Engineering at Gudi.

He said aside the efforts of the management of the institution, led by the Vice Chancellor, professor Bala, the state government’s determination towards establishing the two programmes is unwavering.

The DVC further explained that the institution is also in collaboration with an Italian company that specializes in electrical electronics ,who are determined to equip the new faculty with the necessary equipment worth millions of Naira,to ensure the smooth take off of its three departments

of Civil Engineering, Production Engineering and Electrical Electronics Engineering.

He said: “I want to tell you that one of the best things that has happened since the creation of the state about 24 years ago,was the establishment of this University.

“Unlike in the past, citizens of the state now have access to university learning,which has made virtually every home produce a graduate, courtesy of establishing the institution.

“So Nasarawa State has advanced so much within two decades which is a plus for both citizens and Nigerians.If the school was in session you would have noticed the beehive of activities,which is because of university with over 35,000 students, and you know what it means to have adult of this number in a community, certainly there will be development across all sectors.”
