National Assembly prioritizes human capacity building for better service delivery

By Mercy Aikoye

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Sani Magaji Tambuwal, has reaffirmed his commitment to human capacity building as a top priority. He made this clear during a keynote address at a four-day capacity building program for National Assembly staff in Abuja.

Tambuwal emphasized the importance of training and retraining in today’s fast-paced work environment. He noted that the National Assembly must be at the forefront of modernization, transparency, and accountability.

To achieve this, staff must be continually trained and re-trained to discharge their responsibilities with increased efficiency and commitment. In 2023, the National Assembly management successfully trained 3,990 staff on Salary Grade Levels from 4 to 16.

This year’s capacity building program is dedicated to fostering re-orientation for improved productivity and effective service delivery. Tambuwal stressed that continuous training and retraining will help staff stay up-to-date with industry trends and expand their career opportunities.

He noted that the National Assembly stands as one of the pillars of Nigeria’s evolving democracy. The effectiveness of legislative processes and overall impact on governance depend on staff dedication and quality services.

Tambuwal charged workers to adapt and acquire new skills to remain relevant and competitive. He encouraged participants to approach the training with an open mind and determination to improve.

Chairman National Assembly Service Commission, Engr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi, delivered a goodwill message. He emphasized the importance of staff supporting the vital work of elected representatives in the National Assembly.

Amshi pledged to drive a renewed focus on staff training and professional development, streamline processes, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. He also committed to strengthening transparency and accountability within the National Assembly Service.
