Abia lawmaker vows to continue working despite planned protest

By Mercy Aikoye

Hon Obinna Aguocha, the Labour Party lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in Abia State, has alerted the public to a planned protest against him.

The protest, scheduled for September 4th, 2024, in Abuja, is allegedly sponsored by individuals who lost in the 2023 general election in the state.

Aguocha claims that the group, Niger Delta Youth Peace Builders, is being used to question his contributions as a lawmaker and representative of his constituency.

The group plans to protest under the guise of lack of constituency projects, accountable representation, and mismanagement of rice palliatives.

Aguocha has denied the allegations, stating that he has worked hard to secure viable infrastructural projects and human capital development opportunities in the 2024 budget for his constituents.

He emphasized that projects in the Appropriation Act undergo rigorous due process and are awarded to eligible contractors, and that no government project funding is released to the account of any Honourable member.

Aguocha assured his constituents that he values transparency and accountability and will continue to provide regular updates on his activities.

He urged his constituents not to be swayed by those seeking to spread falsehoods and declared his readiness to continue serving under the leadership of Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti.
