Aguma of Gwagwalada reminds FCTA of abandoned road

By Daniel Tyokua

The Aguma of Gwagwalada, Muhammed Magaji has reminded the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on the need to reconsider the abandoned Gwagwalada market -FRCN road.

He drew the attention of the administration when the Minister of state for FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud was in Gwagwalada for the flagg off of disbursement of inputs to farmers on Thursday.

Magaji said the road was sensitive to them considering how strategic it is and the increasing vehicular moment.

Although he commended the FCT Administration for awarding the contract by the previous administration, but urged the current FCT leadership to see to the completion.

Recall that residents and motorists have been groaning over the abandoned St Mary – FRCN road in Gwagwalada metropolis.

Shuaibu Adams, who resides at the opposite central market along the road, said the abandonment of the road by FCTA since last year had subjected motorists to hardship.

“You know I reside close to Gwagwalada main market and when I am driving out, I had to find an alternative route because of the deplorable state of the road,” he said.

He said since water drainage was constructed by the side of the road and grading by contractors, the rehabilitation work on the road has stopped, adding that the road becomes impassable whenever it rains heavily in the area.

Another resident, Ifeanyi Abraham, who also resides around the market area, said whenever there is heavy rainfall, he parks his vehicle at a friend’s house at Anguwar Dodo and joins ‘okada’ to his house.

The St Mary – FRCN road project was awarded by the FCT administration through the FCT Satellite Town Development Agency (STDA) under the former FCT minister of state, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu.

On his part, the chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abubakar JGiri, said the council was also worried over the abandonment of the road project by the contractor.

“That road you are talking about was awarded by the FCTA under the former FCT minister of state, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, but unfortunately, the project was not completed before her tenure ended,” he said.

He added, “But I have already directed the works department to compile all the FCTA projects in Gwagwalada, including that of FRCN – St Mary road, so that I will present them to the incoming FCT minister to appeal for their completion.
