Minority Caucus commends President, calls for reparation packages

By Mercy Aikoye

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has praised President Bola Tinubu for securing the release of 76 young protesters. The children were arrested for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protest and faced charges of terrorism, treason, and arson.

President Tinubu’s prompt intervention came days after the children’s arraignment, leading the Attorney-General to assume control and terminate the suit. The Caucus commends the President’s responsiveness to Nigerian and international calls.

However, the Caucus seeks accountability for those involved in the children’s unlawful incarceration. They demand investigations, prosecution, and disciplinary actions against responsible individuals and government agencies.

The Caucus emphasizes that anyone involved must face consequences and punitive measures to deter similar actions. They highlight the psychological trauma and health challenges the children experienced during their 95-day incarceration.

The Caucus appeals for quality therapy sessions and medical support to aid the children’s recovery as they reunite with their families. They also advocate for immediate reparation packages to alleviate the hardship, pain, and emotional torture suffered.

The Minority Caucus’s statement underscores the need for justice, accountability, and support for the affected children and their families.

Signed on behalf of the Minority Caucus are Hon. O.K Chinda (Minority Leader), Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J.C (Minority Whip), Hon. Aliyu Madaki (Deputy Minority Leader), and Hon. George Ozodinobi (Deputy Minority Whip).
