NNPC debunks adulterated fuel claims: we maintain rigorous quality control

By Mercy Aikoye

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has denied allegations of selling adulterated fuel in jerrycans, labeling a viral video claiming otherwise as “fake news.”

“This claim is totally false and we urge the public to disregard it,” said Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited.

According to Soneye, NNPC carried out spot checks at all its outlets and found the claim to be false. “We do not dispense petroleum products into bottles or jerrycans, as shown in the video,” he emphasized.

NNPC Retail Ltd adheres to rigorous standards and quality control measures to ensure only high-quality, safe, and reliable petroleum products are available at its stations nationwide. “We take pride in maintaining accurate pump integrity with regular inspection and calibration to ensure consistency across our stations,” Soneye added.

Fuel adulteration is a significant concern in the oil and gas industry, as it can lead to engine malfunction, atmospheric pollution, and harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

To combat adulteration, NNPC has implemented strict quality control measures. “Our standards are uncompromising, and we prioritize customer safety above all,” Soneye assured.

NNPCL urged the public to be cautious of misleading information and assured that it prioritizes maintaining high standards.

“The public should discountenance the spurious claims made in the video and be wary of selfish and unpatriotic elements pushing such narrative as they do not mean well for the country,” Soneye warned.

In conclusion, NNPCL’s swift denial of the allegations and its commitment to quality control demonstrate the company’s dedication to providing reliable petroleum products to the public.

“We maintain rigorous quality control measures and conduct regular inspections to ensure our products meet the highest standards,” Soneye reiterated.
