In spite the critical challenges that confronted his administration, after two terms in office, Dr Bashir Obasekola successfully handed over to a newly elected officers of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Europe (NIDOE) at an AGM held in Athens, Greece.
The newly elected officers include Cllr Harold Ogunfemi (United Kingdom), Chairman; Mr. Michael Otogo (Greece), General Secretary; Mr. Shakiru Oladunjoye (Germany), PRO/Deputy General Secretary; Dr. Alexander Osarogue (Greece), Finance Officer; Prince (Engr) Afolabi Paul Aderemi, Treasurer; Mrs. Chichi Onwugbonu (United Kingdom), Welfare & Social Events Officer; and Mr. Ike Okafor (Austria), EU & other related organizations Liaison Officer.
Others are Mr. Fidel O’Neil Wilson (Italy), IT Officer; Mr. Adekunle Ayoola (Poland), Officer without Portfolio – 1; Mr. Olaseni Lawal (Germany), Officer without Portfolio – 2.
Additionally, the following persons were co-opted to fill the vacant offices, Prince Chima Ibezim (Italy), Vice Chairman; and Barr. (Mrs.) Ursula Atueyi-Nwosu (Ireland), Legal Adviser.
Indeed the organisation was not unmindful of attempts by some disgruntled members who tried to truncate the process by initiating processes to impose two candidates on the organisation as Chairman and Vice Chairman.
Their efforts however failed as the court dismissed their INJUNCTIONS against the Dr Obasekola led Central Executive Council.
It is a thing of joy to state that Dr. Obasekola tenure recorded a lot of successes especially with the setting up of a NIDOE Foundation to be able to promote and execute important projects at the Homeland Development back home in Nigeria.
This year, at his last 2024 A Week in Nigeria activities, Dr Obasekola Executive Council executed homeland development projects worth more than N24 million in all the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
This singular feat has become the envy of some past leaders who orchestrated the crisis that almost engulfed the organisation.
Of course all those are past now as Dr. Obasekola has successfully completed his four years tenure and conducted one of the most democratic elections in NIDOE and handed over to another vibrant leader, Councillor Harold Ogunfemi.
