The House of Representatives committee on Public Petitions has summoned Ifeanyi Emenike, CEO of FGlobal Properties Limited, to appear before it on January 30. This invitation comes after a petition filed by Collins Adele on behalf of 23 allottees of a federal government land scheme in Rumueme, Port Harcourt.
The petitioners claim that they were allocated lands under the scheme but were prevented from developing them by thugs allegedly sent by Emenike. These thugs, armed with guns, matchets, and other dangerous weapons, threatened to kill anyone who tried to work on the land.
According to the petitioners, Emenike’s actions amount to land grabbing and sponsorship of violence. The committee has given Emenike an opportunity to respond to these allegations and state his side of the story.
The Chairman of the Committee, Mike Etaba, warned Emenike that failure to appear before the committee on the invited date might result in the case being determined in his absence. This emphasizes the seriousness of the allegations and the committee’s commitment to investigating the matter.
The summons is a significant step towards addressing the allegations of land grabbing and violence in Port Harcourt. It demonstrates the committee’s willingness to hold individuals accountable for their actions and ensure that the rights of citizens are protected.
The petitioners and other stakeholders will be watching the proceedings closely, hoping for a resolution that addresses their concerns and brings justice to those affected. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for land ownership and development in Nigeria.
As the committee prepares to hear Emenike’s response, it is essential to remember that land grabbing and violence are serious issues that affect many communities across Nigeria. The committee’s efforts to address these issues are crucial to promoting peace, justice, and development in the country.
