The recently upgraded Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri formerly known as Federal Medical Centre, FMC, has made a historical record of delivery the first ever In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) baby.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Associate Professor Kingsley Achigbu disclosed this during the hospital’s annual re-dedication/thanksgiving service informing that the historical baby boy was born at about 10’clock in the morning of January 2, 2025.
Achigbu expressed gratitude that the birth brought joy to the couple and the management of the hospital, noting that

The Medical Administrator further assured that henceforth, the IVF programme would be a regular feature at the hospital.
Dr Achigbu, an Associate Professor of Paediatrics and Child-health advised other couples who are still having challenges of child birth to cry no more as there is a succour now at the FUTH, Owerri.
He urged them to take advantage of the services which are available to fulfill their heart desires of becoming proud parents.
