The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) said it has generated a total revenue of N262 billion in 2024, as against a target of N250billion.
The acting chairman of the Service, Michael Ango disclosed this on Thursday, while briefing journalists during a roadshow to sensitize residents on payment of taxes.
He also revealed that the sum of N43.8 billion was raised in January, 2025 signaling a good start in the year.
Ango explained that plans are underway to set up kiosk offices in plazas and the markets to support its 16 offices across the Federal Capital Territory.
He reminded the residents that the first filing deadline for the year was 31st of January, 2025, where the employer’s annual return was due.
The acting chairman called on the residents to do more in paying of their taxes, which he said would support the government in providing more infrastructure for the people.
Ango said, “As we are all aware, in the last two years or thereabouts that this administration has been in power, one of the main focuses in the FCT has been infrastructure, building and rehabilitation of roads, rehabilitation of schools, hospitals, and other social infrastructure.
“very soon you are going to see us setting up kiosk offices in the plazas and the markets, both within the city center and in the area councils. The whole idea is that we need to reach out.
“We have collected a total amount of 262 billion naira, as against a target of 250 billion. While this was good, we believe that it can be better. 2025, we have also started very strong. In the month of January, we collected 43.8 billion Naira.
“And so far, in the month of February, we are also on track. But you see, the reality about these things is that these monies are not manufactured. They are paid from the taxpayers and the residents of this town. So let me reiterate once more. The taxes that we collect in FCT, we collect personal income tax. We collect capital gains taxes from individuals.
“We collect stamp duties from individuals. We collect property taxes. We collect entertainment tax, which is another tax that we are really focusing on in 2025.
“We also collect several other taxes and fees due to the FCT. And it is also important to clarify that the FCT IRS works for the entire FCT. What that means is that we are here to collect revenue for the FCT administration, for the area councils, for the secretariats, for the departments, and for the agencies. And in doing this, we are collaborating very strongly with all our sister agencies, both at the federal and the FCT level”.
