To bolster internal security, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, hosted a delegation from the European Security Academy in Abuja on Thursday. The high-level discussion aimed to strengthen international ties and enhance internal security in Nigeria.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo welcomed the delegation, led by Dr. Dariusz Sielicki, and reaffirmed his commitment to nation-building through a secure and prosperous Nigeria. He described the partnership with the European Security Academy as a “significant step forward” in addressing pressing internal security challenges.
The Minister highlighted potential areas of collaboration, including: Enhancing the skills and expertise of security personnel; Aligning training programs with international standards; Providing world-class training for security agencies and; Supporting the proposed National Paramilitary Academy
Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of integrating the rule of law into security operations, citing the Academy’s impressive track record in international justice systems.
The European Security Academy delegation, led by Dr. Dariusz Sielicki, expressed their recognition of Nigeria’s progress and their desire to contribute to national security.
This partnership comes at a critical time, as Nigeria’s Immigration Service, Civil Defence, Correctional Service, and Fire Service undergo significant transformations. The collaboration aims to address pressing challenges such as border control, protection of critical assets, and aligning services with global best practices.
