President of the 9th Senate, has congratulated Senator David Mark, on his 77th birthday, celebrating his remarkable life of service to Nigeria. Mark, a seasoned politician and retired Nigerian Army Brigadier General, has had a distinguished career in public service.
Mark served as the 12th President of the Nigerian Senate from 2007 to 2015, an unprecedented eight-year term that showcased his leadership skills and commitment to democratic governance.
His leadership style emphasized unity and institutional growth, fostering constructive legislative-executive relations that strengthened Nigeria’s democracy. In 2010, Mark championed the “Doctrine of Necessity,” ensuring a smooth transition of power during a period of national uncertainty, demonstrating his statesmanship.
Senator Lawan praised Mark’s exemplary leadership, integrity, and dedication to the nation’s progress, noting that his tenure as Senate President had a lasting impact on the National Assembly and Nigeria’s democracy.
Born on April 8, 1948, in Otukpo, Benue State, Mark has had a long and illustrious career in politics and the military. He served as governor of Niger State, from 1984 to 1986 and he represented Benue South senatorial district from 1999 to 2019.
