Kogi State has earned national recognition for its commitment to ethical governance, emerging as one of Nigeria’s most ethically compliant states under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
This commendation came from the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation (CESVO), an international anti-corruption NGO, during a ceremony honouring the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, with the Ethics and Integrity Ambassador Award.
Prince Salih Musa Yakubu, Executive Director of CESVO, explained that the award followed a rigorous 14-month independent undercover assessment of ethical standards in all 36 states.
Hon. Ismaila was selected as one of the top 200 public officials at the sub-national level, having been nominated by whistleblowers for demonstrating emotional intelligence, professional discipline, and a strong sense of public duty.
He was also issued a certificate of recognition, describing him as an “exemplary public officer” whose leadership has positioned the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media among the three most ethically managed offices of its kind nationwide.
His work as the Governor’s spokesperson was highlighted for its effectiveness and integrity, with CESVO noting that his performance justifies his consideration for higher public roles and opportunities in corporate and development sectors both in Nigeria and internationally.
The award presentation coincided with the observance of the International Day of Conscience, symbolizing not just personal achievement for Hon. Ismaila, but also the ethical direction of the Ododo administration.
In his remarks, Hon. Ismaila dedicated the recognition to Governor Ododo, praising him for fostering a professional and ethical work environment.
He pledged to continue upholding high ethical standards in public communication and to promote openness and responsibility in his media engagements.
Additionally, the ceremony also recognized three Government House Media Centre staff—Evelyn Oyiza Yusuff, Shamsudeen Sarki, and Rufai Aliyu Omeiza—for their professionalism and ethical contributions in support of the Governor’s media office.
