There is palpable tension in Uli in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State as a soldier serving under Operation Udoka was killed by suspected unknown gunmen after leaving his duty post without authorization to attend a party.
The incident occurred in the evening of Saturday, May 18, 2025, at the Forward Operating Base in Uli.
Sources who pleaded for anonymity revealed that the soldier, dressed in full military camouflage, had gone to a strippers’ event tagged “Ladies’ Jamboree” at a joint close to the base.
His absence was said to be discovered during a tactical operation, prompting a search and was later found fatally shot at the hotel.
The attackers are believed to be unknown gunmen who have declared war on security operatives in the Southeast.
The soldier’s weapon was said to be recovered at the scene and is now in military custody.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) could not pick his call when called by our correspondent for police angle of the story.
The incident adds to a troubling pattern of targeted attacks on security forces in the South-East.
Recall that suspected unknown gunmen recently attacked a security check point at Isuofia, the home town of Prof Charles Soludo, the Anambra State governor.
