The much-anticipated National Urhobo Summit has received the endorsement of Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Centeal on the the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This followed a presentation made to him in Abuja on Monday by members of the Board of Trustees of the Urhobo Leadership Forum, Abuja, led by Ambassador Brownson Dede, alongside Olorogun Peter Igho, Prof. Vremudia Diejomaoh, and Okakuro Bright Igbako.
The visit to Senator Dafinone was an opportunity for the Board members to brief him on plans for the proposed summit, which is an initiative aimed at drawing the desired attention to Urhoboland.
The Board commended Sen. Dafinone’s representation of Urhobo people in the Senate, his leadership on key Urhobo issues, including the intervention that secured the release of the Ovie of Ewu, and his accessibility through platforms such as the Meet-and-Greet initiative, that he holds regularly to interact with his constituents.
The Board also requested his support in amending the law establishing the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, to broaden its mandate and allow it to operate as a full-fledged university with faculties beyond petroleum-related fields.
Also discussed during the parley was the revitalization of the Sapele Port, which the Senator emphasized as a priority, and noted to the his excited guests that “I have successfully secured funding for the first phase of its renovation in the 2025 national budget through the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy”.
Commenting on the importance of the meeting, Senator Dafinone said: “I remain committed to advancing education, infrastructure, and sustainable economic development in the Urhobo nation.”
He further pledged his continuous support and dedicated to all other initiatives aimed at promoting the unity, progress and development of Urhobo nation.
