The finals of Defend FON Urban Unity Cup Football competition in commemoration of the celebration of the greatest achievements and the unprecedented leadership ingenuity of State Governor, Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru which proudly sponsored by the Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Youth Development and Sports and member representing Abakaliki North Constituency,Dr Victor Chidi Nwoke has been held at PA Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki with the Building Materials FC clinching the first position by beating AE_FUTHA by three goals to nothing.
In a speech delivered before the final game, the sponsor of the tournament, Victor Nwoke said that the competition was organized to satisfy his passion and unwavering commitment to youth development and community engagement through sports and also in appreciation of the supports he got from his constituents during the 2023 general elections.
He described Football as a game that is more than a game as he said it is a tool for peace, progress, sportsmanship, unity and purpose.
He commended the State Governor,Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru for giving him the formidable platform to thrive and the chairman of the occasion, who is also the chairman of APC Ebonyi State Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the players, Fans and all that contributed to the success of the competition.
Mr. Chidi Nwoke particularly mentioned the first Executive Governnor of Ebonyi State Senator Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu for his contributions and also the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly,Chinedu Onah for their meaningful contributions.
Speaking at the occasion, the Ist Executive Governnor of Ebonyi State Senator Sam Egwu, commended the Lawmaker for selecting him to kick off the final match and added that the whole Ebonyi State appreciate the contributions of Victor Nwoke and urged him to keep it up.
In his words, the APC Chairman in Ebonyi State and Chairman of the occasion Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha lauded the achievements of Nwoke and reiterated the commitment of APC to make life more meaningful to Ebonyians through effective governance and efficient legislations.
On his part,the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly,Chinedu Onah said that Chidi Nwoke has done exceedingly well in bringing the youths together through sports,
He maintained that through this the youths will be available when they are needed.
Other government officials who spoke include the Chief of Staff Government House Prof Emmanuel Echegu, Commissioner for works Engr Lebechi Mbam, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry,Oguzor Offia Nwali, Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Richard Idike, Deputy Chiefwhip Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Lucas Arinze Chukwu , Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Nkechinyere Iyioku, SA to Governor on Sports, Nwankwo Pius Nwankwo, ALGON Chairman Ebonyi State, Chinedu Uburu , Chairman Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebere Nwogba, Director General EBBC Comrade Tony Nwizi, General Manger Ebonyi Road Maintenance Agency, Ben Nwovu among others highlighted on the importance of sports.
The star price of one million naira was given to the winner Building Materials FC while AE-FUTHA collected the second the second price of five hundred thousand naira and Timber Shade FC collected three hundred thousand naira as the third placed team.
