The APC Grassroots Governance Group APC G3 on Thursday said the comments by Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to the Vatican show the opposition is in a panicky mood, confused and desperate.
Lawal had described Tinubu’s visit as unfair and insulting to Nigeria’s Christian population.
He further said the visit was likely arranged by lobbyists and argued that a Muslim president leading eminent Christians to the Pope was inappropriate.
APC G3 National Coordinator, Amechi Chuks. Oyema who signed the press release said Babachir and his group have run out of steam even before the beginning of the race.
The Group said the desperate coalition proponents wanted to use the sensitive issue of religion to cause mischief.
He wondered how Babachir will condemn the visit whereas it has received wide commendation from the Catholic Bishops and the Christian community.
According to the APC G3 “President Bola Tinubu confounded and disappointed Babachir and his group who wanted to use the Muslim-Muslim ticket issue to polarize the country.
“Rather, Nigerians have seen that the President is carrying all religions along. In the present dispensation, no religion, muslim or christian will complain of being marginalised by the present administration.
“Babachir and the confused, desperate so called coalition are in a panicky mood. They wanted to use the sensitive issue of religion to cause mischief, but this again has fallen flat.
“Their rejection by vast majority of Nigerians is making them confused. Nigerians have refused to swallow the seed of discord they wanted to sow in the minds of the citizens.
