A statement signed by Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations said Yellow succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during a fierce gun battle with troops of Operation FASAN YAMA.

He said the operations was conducted in coordination with Hybrid Forces, Air Components, and other security agencies — targeted bandits and terrorists operating in parts of Eastern Sokoto.

Danbokkolo, described as one of the most feared terror leaders in the region, was reportedly injured during the encounter and died on Monday, June 30, from the wounds he sustained. He had long been on the military’s radar for his involvement in numerous violent attacks and atrocities.

The military noted that Danbokkolo was believed to be even more dreaded than Bello Turji, another wanted terrorist commander in the region. He was allegedly behind the gruesome December 2021 attack in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where passengers aboard a commercial vehicle were burned alive.

The statement also revealed that Danbokkolo was heavily dependent on pentazocine, an opioid painkiller, to sustain his violent lifestyle.

With Danbokkolo eliminated, troops of Operation FASAN YAMA have renewed their hunt for Bello Turji, who is reportedly in hiding.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security across the country, urging all citizens to support ongoing efforts to rid communities of criminal elements.
