The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has strongly condemned the recent kidnapping incident in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, where at least 35 innocent civilians were brutally killed despite ransom payments. In a statement signed by Chairman Sen. Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua on Wednesday, the Forum expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Zamfara State.
The senators described the incident as a stark reminder of the security challenges facing the nation and urged security agencies to collaborate with local vigilantes to bring the perpetrators to justice. They emphasized that such acts of violence do not reflect the values of the North, known for its hospitality, peace, and tranquility.
The forum called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to be more proactive in their response to security threats, improve intelligence gathering and sharing, and prevent such incidents in the future. They appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts in supporting security agencies, including funding and recent mass recruitments, and hoped for more training of personnel to curb incidents of this kind.
The Senators therefore demanded that perpetrators be made face the rath of the law and brought to justice; there be improvement intelligence gathering and sharing, and be more proactive in responding to security threats; and there be support for security agencies and providing more training and resources for security personnel
The NSF’s statement highlights the need for collective action to address the security challenges facing the nation and to promote peace and stability in the region.
