The National Assembly (N/Ass) has declared that democracy has stabilized in Nigeria, attributing this development to the absence of military intervention in the country’s governance. This declaration was made during the induction ceremony for 785 newly recruited staff across grade levels 8 to 12, held at the A-Class Event Centre in Abuja.
Clerk to the N/Ass (CNA), Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana, represented by Deputy Clerk Bashir Yero, stated that the stability of democracy has enabled the N/Ass to grow stronger as an institution over the past 26 years. “Our democracy has continued to stabilize, with no threat of military intervention, and the N/Ass as an institution has grown stronger, more professional, and more responsive to the needs of the Nigerian people,” he said.
Ogunlana charged the newly recruited staff to demonstrate deep commitment, productivity, and professionalism in their work. He emphasized the importance of mastering legislative practice and procedures, maintaining high moral standards, and acquiring digital skills to keep pace with modern legislative demands.
The CNA assured the new staff that their welfare is a top priority under his leadership, noting that their salaries are paid promptly and the first 28 days’ allowance has been settled. He encouraged them to see their roles as crucial contributions to strengthening governance and consolidating Nigeria’s democratic journey.
This development comes as part of the National Assembly’s efforts to reposition its workforce for better service delivery. Recently, the CNA assured over 3,000 legislative aides of protection of their jobs and better remuneration, further underscoring the institution’s commitment to its staff’s welfare and effectiveness.
