NISO distances self again from unauthorized ‘Nigeria National Grid’ X account

By Stella Odueme

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has once again disassociated itself from an unauthorized social media account on X (formerly Twitter) operating under the name “Nigeria National Grid,” warning the public against relying on information disseminated through the platform.

In a statement by NISO Management, made available at the weekend, the agency recalled its earlier press release of January 17, 2026, in which it formally distanced itself from the account, noting that despite the warning, the account continues to operate and publish what it described as misleading and unauthorized information regarding Nigeria’s power grid.

The organization stressed that it does not own, manage, control, or operate the account and has no affiliation whatsoever with those behind it.
“NISO does not own, manage, control, or operate the social media account on X bearing the name ‘Nigeria National Grid.’

The individuals or entities operating it are unknown to the organization and are in no way authorized to speak on its behalf, represent its views, or act under its name,” the statement said.

The agency urged members of the public, media organizations, and stakeholders not to quote, reference, rely on, or attribute any information published on the account to NISO, emphasizing that such content does not reflect its official position, operations, or activities.

As the entity responsible for managing Nigeria’s national electricity grid, NISO stated that all official communications are released exclusively through its verified platforms, including Facebook and LinkedIn (@Nigerian Independent System Operator), Instagram (@officialniso_ng), X (@OFFICIALNISO_NG), and its official website, www.niso.org.ng.
NISO reaffirmed its commitment to transparent, accurate, and responsible communication and called on the public to disregard and report any unauthorized use of its identity or mandate.
