Kaduna State has emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent State Visit to Brazil, with Governor Uba Sani signing three historic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that are expected to redefine the state’s economic future.
The agreements, described as “frameworks of transformation” by the governor, were signed with three Brazilian institutions—SAMPRES, SENAI, and CAMPO—and are designed to reposition Kaduna as a hub of innovation, agribusiness, and human capital development.
The first MoU with SAMPRES, a global leader in animal genetics, will see the infusion of Girolando genetics and advanced reproductive technologies into Kaduna’s dairy sector. The initiative aims to establish a high-yield nucleus herd, reduce the state’s dependence on dairy imports, and cultivate a knowledge-driven agrarian ecosystem that could make Kaduna a regional leader in dairy production.
The second agreement with SENAI, Brazil’s foremost vocational training institution, marks what Governor Sani called a “renaissance in skills development.” Under the pact, new curricula will be co-created across 13 technical disciplines, with a dual certification system to embed global standards into Kaduna’s technical and vocational training institutions. This move is expected to empower thousands of youths with future-proof skills to meet the demands of the modern economy.
The third MoU, signed with CAMPO, focuses on converting Kaduna’s vast arable land into intensive, technology-enabled agricultural production zones. This includes soil revitalisation, irrigation infrastructure, mechanisation, and a full-spectrum value chain for key crops and livestock. The governor noted that the project will usher in “an era of agro-industrialisation and food sovereignty” for the state.
Speaking after the signing, Governor Uba Sani described the agreements as “strategic instruments of inclusive prosperity,” stressing that they reflect Kaduna’s commitment to building a self-sustaining economy driven by innovation, knowledge, and the dignity of labour.
The deals, struck on the sidelines of President Tinubu’s high-profile engagements in Brazil, are already being hailed as one of the most consequential economic breakthroughs for any Nigerian state in recent years.
