The Agulu Peoples’s Union (Women Wing), Aba branch, has launched a-N50 million Women Empowerment programme, just as it honoured some of its illustrious sons with awards of excellence and commitment to the community’s development.
Speaking during the colourful ceremony, which witnessed the presentation of ‘Anya Furu Ugo’ Cultural Dance in Aba, Abia State, the Chairperson of Agulu women, Aba branch, Mrs. Uche Reuben Unaegbuna, remarked that the occasion brought together many eminent sons and daughters of Agulu town.
Mrs Unaegbuna commended Agulu women for embracing the virtues of love, noting that by coming together in an atmosphere of love, peace, and unity, they would positively impact on their environment and serve as a rallying point for all Agulu people in Abia State.
The chairperson noted: “The beginning of everything is always associated with difficulties and uncertainties, but what is needed at all times is the will of God to prevail and persevere.”
Mrs. Unaegbuna observed that the motive for launching the women’s empowerment programme, was to add value to their lives, and bring them closer to socialise in the best interest of society.
On the presentation of the ‘Anya Furu Ugo’ cultural dance, she noted it was the first of its kind.
“It is unique and showcases our vision, motivation, as well as our aims and objectives in community development, and helping the less privileged ones and widows.
The chairperson thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the launching ceremony, including Mr. Ikechukwu Ewuzie, Mr. Victor Obi and Chief Augustine Ogbusu. Others imclude Mr. Rahael Ukoh and Mr. Reuben Ifeakor.
She also commended her predecessors, Dr. Lady Euchería Iloabuchi and Mrs. Vivian Ifesinachi Enemuoh, for setting the ball rolling. Mrs. Unaegbuna equally thanked the awardees and donors for their “unflinching love and support.”
Also speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of Agulu people’s Union, Mr. Reuben Ifeakor, stressed the need to appreciate and promote the cultural heritage of Agulu people, and lauded the vision of the women, to reawaken the people’s consciousness and thus showcase their talents to the outside world.
He commended the women’s group for organising the joyous occasion and expressed satisfaction with the large turnout, which indicated their desire to unite.
Mr. Ifeakor thanked the women for recognising his contributions to the development of Agulu people in their community, as well as in Aba.
He applauded the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, for the massive rehabilitation and building of new infrastructure in communities across the state.
He described the Governor as a quintessential leader and true democrat whose concern was to better the people’s lot, transform Abia State, and make it the pride of the East.
Mr Ifeakor said the massive turnout at the event was a testament to the Agulu people’s readiness, to rekindle the spirit of oneness, speak with one voice, and vigorously pursue their collective interests.
Dignitaries from all walks of life, especially the business community in Aba, graced the occasion, which witnessed cultural dances presented by the Women’s Group.
