Kanu Conviction Shows Evidence Ignored by Court — Defence Adviser

A legal adviser to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has criticised the judgment convicting him on treason-related charges, alleging that the court ignored key defence evidence.

In a statement on Thursday, Njoku Jude Njoku, Esq., said the ruling by Justice James Omotosho demonstrated a failure to evaluate exhibits admitted during trial, which he argued is a fundamental judicial obligation.

According to him, several defence exhibits — including videos of former Defence Minister Theophilus ‘TY’ Danjuma, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, and statements attributed to the Director-General of the Department of State Services — were not addressed in the judgment, despite their relevance to the case.

Njoku also said the court ignored the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry report on the #EndSARS protests, which he claimed attributed much of the violence during that period to security agencies rather than IPOB.

He further argued that the judgment failed to consider chronology, noting that Kanu has been in Department of State Services custody since June 2021 without access to communication.

The defence adviser warned that disregarding admitted evidence undermines judicial legitimacy and poses a threat to the rule of law.
