A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the aegis of Africa Global Development for Positive Change Initiative (ADIafrica), in partnership with Stephen and Judith Igwe International Education Foundation has conducted a free medical eye screening exercise for over 300 residents of Rivers State.
Flagging-off of the free medical eye screening exercise in Port Harcourt, yesterday, President of ADIafrica International, Prince Dan Mbachi said is parts activities of the organisation lift sufferings of its host communities in Rivers.
Mbachi explained that the initiative reflects ADIafrica’s broader mission to advance sustainable development through practical, people-centered solutions, adding that health security is foundational to productivity, and drives prosperity.
According to him: “At ADIafrica International, we recognize that vision is not merely a medical issue; it is an economic, educational, and social issue. A child who cannot see clearly struggles to learn. A trade with impaired vision struggles to work. A parent with untreated eye conditions struggles to provide, when sight is compromised, opportunity is limited”.
He said “That is why this free eye screening exercise, providing eye tests, medications, visual field assessments, eyeglasses, contact lenses, and accessories is not charity, but impact. It is intervention. It is transformation”.
Mbachi however, commended the medical team, partners, volunteers, and supporters, saying that their professionalism and dedication demonstrate what collaborative development looks like in action.
Meanwhile, responding to questions from journalists, Mbachi called for a visa processing centre in Port Harcourt, Rivers Capital.
He said the processing of visa in the state would generate revenue to the state government because of its economic viability to the country.
The ADIafrica President appealed: “I am calling on the Rivers State government – Rivers State is the capital of South-South. We are calling on them to find a way in which we can dialogue to have visa processing centre in Rivers State.
“Visa processing centre will generate more revenue for the state. We have it only in Abuja and Lagos. So, we should have one also in Port Harcourt.”
He said ADIafrica is willing to partner with Rivers State government to facilitate the siting of the centre in the state.
“If (Rivers) government wants to do this, it can partner with ADIafrica; we know how to go about it. So, I am calling on the government of Rivers State to see how we can work with them to achieve it. It is achievable.”
Speaking further, the group boss
mentioned that African route is most expensive compared to other continents, saying ADIafrica has been campaigning that African Union (AU) should address the exorbitant air tickets.
“African Union should step in and see how they can dialogue it out, because African route is one of the most expensive routes in the world. So, African route is very very important. I am also calling on the United Nations to establish vocational university in Africa.”
