The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has step up efforts to restore professionalism and discipline following reports of unprofessional conduct by some of its personnel on Nigerian roads.
Assistant Corps Marshal, Safety Engineering Officer at the Corps’ Headquarters, Chichebem Onukwubiri, while addressing officers and men of the corps in Makurdi, recently said the corps had designed a reformed exercise to restore the corps’ core values rather than punish officers.
He said the initiative was intended to strengthen the institution and reinforce its sacred mandate of safeguarding lives and property on the roads.
Onukwubiri urged the personnel to approach the programme with openness and sincerity, emphasising the need for attentive listening, honest engagement, deliberate learning, and willingness to adjust.
The ACM noted that every patrol operation and interaction with the public must reflect competence, integrity, and respect for human dignity.
“I am confident that the exercise would usher in a more professional corps that is historically known for friendliness and not harassing road users”.
He, however, acknowledged recent incidents of misconduct involving some officers, describing the reform effort as a turning point toward restoring and rebuilding public confidence.
Also speaking, Benue Sector Commander of the Corps, Kehinde Dahunsi, described the programme as a strategic effort focused on sensitization, discipline reinforcement, and institutional strengthening.
Dahunsi said that the initiative was aimed at positioning the corps for greater achievement in the discharge of its road safety mandate.
“The dynamic nature of FRSC operations required regular capacity upliftment, discipline therefore remained the bedrock of the corps’ work. Sustained professionalism among personnel is essential to maintaining the trust of the motoring public and ensuring safer roads across the country”. Dahhunsi maintained.
