The Police Command in Plateau has arrested suspected arms suppliers and armed robbery suspects in separate operations across the state.
Police sources said that at about 7:30 p.m. on March 24, operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested two suspects, Taimako Luwe and Korbe Gobakji, both of Yashi Village.
During the operation, two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles with magazines loaded with 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered from the suspects. The suspects reportedly confessed to supplying additional rifles to another suspect who is currently at large.
In a related development, police also arrested two suspected armed robbers following a reported robbery incident in Naraguta Village.
The incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on the same day when the suspects allegedly armed themselves with a knife, stormed a hotel in the area and robbed a customer of N38,000 before fleeing.
The Divisional Police Officer of Anguwan Rogo mobilised a patrol team to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the knife used in the operation.
Police authorities said investigation is ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the robbery gang.
