The Federal Government has launched the Revised National Gender Policy on Agrifood Systems Transformation (2025–2030), targeting deeper inclusion and productivity across Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, said the policy will unlock the full potential of the agrifood system by addressing long-standing gender disparities.
Represented by Minister of State, Aliyu Abdullahi, Kyari stressed that women remain central to food production but continue to face barriers limiting their productivity.
He described the policy as a practical framework to guarantee equitable access to land, finance, technology, and decision-making across the value chain.
Kyari warned that success will depend on implementation, urging institutions to embed the policy into budgets, programmes, and monitoring systems to ensure measurable outcomes.
Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said the revised framework builds on gains in expanding women’s access to critical resources and services.
She added that the 2025–2030 action plan introduces clear targets, stronger accountability, and positions gender equity as central not peripheral to food security.
Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Andrew Mamedu, emphasised that impact will be judged by execution, calling for political will, funding, and institutional accountability.
Development partners, including AGRA, alongside farmer groups, pledged support but insisted that full implementation is key to delivering inclusive growth and improved livelihoods nationwide.
