From John Silas, Lagos
The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has urged motorists to prioritize road safety and responsible driving.
Bakare-Oki made the plea while extending warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across the world, particularly the motoring public in Lagos State, on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Bakare-Oki, on behalf of the management and entire workforce of LASTMA, described the sacred Islamic festival as a period of deep spiritual reflection, sacrifice, unwavering faith, tolerance and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah.
He urged Muslim faithful to continue to uphold the enduring virtues of peace, compassion, selflessness, discipline and harmonious coexistence which Eid-el-Kabir symbolises.
The LASTMA General Manager also appealed to motorists, commercial transport operators and all categories of road users to exercise maximum caution, vigilance and civic responsibility before, during and after the festive period to safeguard lives and property across the State.
Bakare-Oki specifically warned against reckless driving, speeding, dangerous overtaking, route violations and other traffic offences capable of causing avoidable accidents and needless loss of lives.
He further advised drivers to refrain completely from driving under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or any intoxicating substances capable of impairing alertness, coordination and sound judgment while operating vehicles on public roads.
According to him, “strict compliance with government-approved speed limits, traffic regulations and road safety protocols remains essential to ensuring a peaceful, accident-free and hitch-free Eid-elKabir celebration across Lagos State.”
The General Manager reiterated that LASTMA officers would remain strategically deployed across major highways, critical traffic corridors and key intersections to ensure seamless vehicular movement, strengthen traffic management operations and provide prompt emergency response services throughout the festive season.
Bakare-Oki also appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate fully with traffic management personnel and other security agencies by obeying all traffic laws and safety directives put in place for public order and collective safety.
He thereafter wished all Muslim faithful a peaceful, joyous and spiritually fulfilling Eid-el-Kabir celebration, while praying for lasting peace, unity, prosperity and socioeconomic development in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
