From George Coben, Bauchi
Bauchi State Chapter Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Pharmacist Samaila Burga, has said that the party is going on with all preparations for the 2027 elections in the state.
The Chairman stated this while speaking in a press briefing, at the PDP headquarters, Bauchi, on Tuesday.
Burga said that the Board of Trustees, BOT, of the party are now piloting its affairs since the supreme court judgement that puts its leadership non-existent at the national level, and as a registered association with the corporate affairs commission.
He further explained that as the present leadership, the BOT have appointed a 13 member caretaker committee to run the affairs of the party, adding that in the state, it is already going on with the screening of aspirants into various positions ahead of the 2027 elections, with some concluded.
While saying that the PDP in the state backs its BOT, Samaila Burga assured that defections from the party to others by some of its erstwhile members will not affect its performance in the state as it brazes up for the 2027 elections.
It would be recalled that the supreme court judgement nullified the national convention of the party held in Ibadan, with the tenure of it’s NWC elapsing in December, 2025, which created a vacuum of leadership at the national level of the party.
The party had, however, reportedly, successfully concluded congresses from ward to state level in 26 states, as ratified by the NEC of the party, witnessed by officials of INEC.
By section 13 of the constitution of the party, it has organs from the ward level to the national convention, with such organs at the national level being the NWC, national caucus, BOT, NEC, and national convention.
In the absence of the NWC, responsible for the day to day affairs of the party, and in the absence of the national chairman, responsible for calling of the meetings of all the national organs of the party, it will resort to its BOT for leadership and guidance.
