Sen. Mwadkon appeals for unity after APC Plateau North ticket win

By Pwanagba Agabus, Jos

Former Senate Minority Leader,
Simon Mwadkon, who recently won the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial ticket for Plateau North, has called for unity and continued support ahead of the general elections.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Jos, the Plateau State Capital, Mwadkon said, “my call to you today is to let you know that we are still members of the same family with great determination, with focus to move ahead.”

According to him, “During my campaign, I told my supporters that we are not in a competition, but we are running our race.”

“In the act of competition, you begin to look at your own progress, your own dexterity, your own ability. But when you run this race, we place God first, and therefore we followed, and that is why we want to believe that God has been merciful to us and grant us this success.”

“Our focus have been humanity, and we have so demonstrated that in all the offices we’ve held that the human being is more important than any other consideration, and that is what I learned, that is what I was told, that is what has been inculcated into me by no one.

“But by my own father, who was also a politician and a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, and therefore I’ve learned the ropes through him, and I’ve got to understand that the human being is the most important in the life of every citizen.”

“And therefore you win an election, it is incumbent on you as a person, as a leader, to see everybody, and to carry everyone along, considerations like religion, ethnicity are not important, and I’ve seen that so demonstrated to me by my brother.

He recalled, “while I was in court in 2023 following my declaration as a senator representing Plateau North, I was in court and Suleiman Kwande, who does not belong to the same religious extraction or ethnicity with me, withdrew his case against me, but others did not, so the issue of considering religion and ethnicity was not what he looked at.”
