The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 56,000 personnel across the federation to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
According to a press release signed by ACS Babawale Afolabi, Public Relations Officer at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, the deployment is aimed at protecting lives, property, and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).
Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who ordered the deployment, also directed the immediate mobilization of operational vehicles, ambulances, boats, and K9 units to enable rapid response during emergencies. The measure is part of a broader strategy to strengthen security coverage during the festive period.
To preempt and counter potential security breaches, all specialized tactical squads have been placed on high alert. These include the Mining Marshals, Special Intelligence Squad, Crack Squad, Female Special Force, and the Rapid Response Squad. The NSCDC said the move would ensure prompt intervention against any threats.
A strict supervisory framework has also been activated to guarantee seamless execution of the security plan. Zonal Commanders are mandated to directly supervise commands within their areas and coordinate closely with State Commandants, while State Commandants will monitor Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Outpost Heads to ensure full compliance with the operational order.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to working in synergy with sister security agencies and the public, urging citizens to provide timely and actionable information on any security threats. It also warned individuals or groups planning to cause trouble or vandalize public infrastructure during the celebration to desist immediately, stating that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
