Umahi links APC’s Ekiti victory to Tinubu’s performance

By Daniel Tyokua

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has attributed the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s sweeping victory in the recent Ekiti State governorship election to President Bola Tinubu’s performance in office.

He boasted that the ruling party would replicate the feat in the 2027 presidential election.

Umahi made the remarks while receiving the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on a courtesy visit to the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Abuja, on Wednesday.

He congratulated Oyebanji on his landslide re-election, commending President Tinubu and the APC, describing the Ekiti poll as a strong endorsement of the administration’s infrastructure and development agenda.

According to Umahi, the ruling party’s growing acceptance across the country is driven by the President’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure projects and ensuring equitable distribution of development across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He declared that the outcome in Ekiti was a pointer to what would happen in the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Umahi, the minister assured the governor that the newly approved Ado–Ijan–Ilumoba–Ikole Road project would be awarded strictly through a transparent procurement process, promising that the state government would be kept informed to facilitate effective monitoring of the contractor.

“Technically, APC spoke very loudly because of the great work the President is doing. The same way the President is intervening in Ekiti, he is intervening across the country.

“There is no place facing road challenges where the President is not taking action. For the first time, infrastructure is being fairly distributed across the federation.

“As it happened in Ekiti, so shall it happen for the President in 2027,” he said.

In his remarks, Governor Oyebanji credited the APC’s unprecedented electoral success in Ekiti to President Tinubu’s swift approval of critical road projects and Umahi’s commitment to ensuring their prompt execution.

He said the reconstruction of the Itawure–Aramoko–Ado Road, which had remained abandoned for years despite repeated promises by previous administrations, restored public confidence and earned widespread appreciation for the President.

According to the governor, contractors were mobilised to the site barely three weeks after President Tinubu approved the project, a development that convinced many residents that the Federal Government was committed to addressing the state’s infrastructure deficit.
