The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has declared its readiness for the September 26, 2026 local government elections, saying it is fully prepared to retain all the 27 chairmanship and 305 councillorship seats across the state.
The declaration followed the confirmation by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) of September 26, 2026 as the date for the conduct of elections into the 27 Local Government Area (LGA) councils and 305 wards in the State.
In a press release titled “RE: IMO STATE 2026 LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS,” dated September 11, 2026 and signed by the Chairman of ISIEC, Hon. Charles Ejiogu, JP, the Commission informed all registered political parties and the general public of the election date.
According to the Commission, the elections will hold across the 4,758 polling units in Imo State.
ISIEC stated: “This is to inform the critical stakeholders, particularly, all registered Political Parties and the general public that elections into the Offices of the 27 LGAs Council Chairmen and 305 Ward Councillors, will hold on Saturday 26th September, 2026 in the 4,758 polling units across Imo State.
“Therefore, all registered Political Parties are hereby requested to take note and do the needful, as the Commission’s 18th September, 2025 ‘360 days’ NOTICE OF ELECTION’ pursuant to Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, as amended, refers.
“In view of the foregoing, consultation with critical Stakeholders is on-going.”
Reacting to the development, the Imo State chapter of the APC, in a statement dated September 12, 2026 and captioned “LG ELECTIONS: APC IS READY,” said it had commenced preparations for the exercise since the initial notice issued by ISIEC about a year ago.
The statement, signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, PhD, said the party had put the necessary logistics in place to field credible and acceptable candidates across the state’s local constituencies.
The APC spokesman said: “Following the recent confirmation by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) of the September 26th date for the local government election in the State, the All Progressives Congress in the State wishes to restate its readiness to field credible and popular candidates who will help her retain all the 27 chairmanship and 305 councillorship seats in the State.
