The FCT Police Command has debunked reports of an alleged kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, describing it as a false alarm.
In a statement issued by Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, said officers attached to Nyanya Division received a distress call on Thursday at about 10:30 a.m. on June 4, 2026, alleging an ongoing kidnapping at the school.
The Divisional Police Officer, Nyanya Division, immediately mobilized officers and surveillance teams to the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that students had suddenly started shouting “kidnappers” and running out of the premises, triggering panic among teachers and residents.
The statement reads, “Police cordoned off the school and conducted a thorough search. After questioning persons within and around the premises, the Command said no kidnapping incident was established, no suspect was sighted, and no victim was identified.
“Officers also patrolled surrounding hills, boundaries, and adjoining areas, and visited nearby schools as a precautionary measure”
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities or emergencies to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
