Projects: Wike has not disappointed me, says Tinubu

By Daniel Tyokua

President Bola Tinubu has commended the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike for making Abuja a world class capital through construction of roads and execution of other strategic projects.

Tinubu stated this at the inauguration of the 10 completed judges’ quarters for Federal High Court judges in Katampe District of Abuja, on Wednesday.

He said Wike’s delivery had demonstrated that performance is what counts in public service.

Tinubu represented by the vice president Kashim Shettina, explained that the Renewed Hope Agenda is rebuilding trust in institutions and would uphold the rule of law, which is an indication of another concrete step.

He said, “Abuja is changing. Nigeria is changing. Our reforms are taking root. We will not stop until every sector reflects the greatness of this nation.

“Let me commend the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. When I gave you the task of making Abuja a world-class capital, I knew you would deliver. You have not disappointed me. From roads to projects like this, you have shown that performance is what counts in public service.

“I also thank the leadership of the Judiciary for the strong collaboration with the Executive. This partnership serves our people.

“To My Lords who will live here: Nigeria looks to you. As we provide these homes, we ask for your continued commitment to swift, fair, and transparent justice. Let these quarters be places of reflection and integrity. Let your judgments strengthen our democracy” Tinubu said.

In his remarks, the Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike, said the commissioning of the 10 residences for Federal High Court judges follows the successful delivery of Court of Appeal judges quarters just the day prior and added that the momentum would continue on July 7th with the unveiling of 20 units for the FCT High Court judges.

The Minister who said the gesture is part of Tinubu’s third year anniversary, noted that he personally visited the site numerous times to ensure that progress was maintained regardless of weather conditions.

He further disclosed that the contractor has also been mandated to maintain the structures for the first six months to preserve the buildings.

Wike while addressing critics who labeled him a “land grabber” for reclaiming undeveloped plots that had been idle for 15 years for the Judges Quarters, defended his actions as necessary for the public good, pointing to the reinvigorated real estate development activities in the area as proof of his commitment to national development rather than personal gain.

He also revealed plans to further consolidate the area as Judges Zone, citing the ongoing construction of quarters for the National Industrial Court and the Code of Conduct Tribunal judges, both slated for completion by January 2027.

In addition, the minister explained that the FCTA will acquire and remove nearby high-rise buildings that compromise the security and privacy of the judicial quarters, while also noting that a dedicated police station will be constructed to ensure the safety of the residents.

The Minister said the projects, combined with the extensive road networks commissioned by the President in the Katampe District last year, were transforming the landscape of the Federal Capital Territory and expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to drive this transformation.
