President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, on the occasion of his 85th birthday, describing the revered monarch as a symbol of unity, integrity, and exemplary leadership.

In a statement issued on Sunday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu paid tribute to the foremost traditional ruler in Nigeria’s South-East, praising his remarkable contributions to nation-building, corporate leadership, and community development.

The President described Igwe Achebe as not only a highly respected traditional ruler but also a distinguished corporate leader and oil and gas expert whose influence extends beyond the royal institution.

Before ascending the throne of his forebears, the monarch built an illustrious career in the corporate world, serving as a director at Shell in Nigeria and holding leadership positions in several of the company’s operations in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Liberia, and Angola.

President Tinubu commended the monarch’s enduring efforts in peacebuilding, youth empowerment, and socio-economic development within his domain and across the country.

He particularly lauded the Obi’s role in fostering national cohesion, noting that the traditional ruler has consistently served as a vital bridge between grassroots communities and government institutions.

According to the President, Igwe Achebe’s decades of service in enterprise, governance, and traditional leadership have earned him national admiration and respect.

Tinubu said the monarch’s wisdom, grace, and commitment to peace have continued to inspire many across generations.

The President joined the royal family, the people of Onitsha, and residents of Anambra State in celebrating the monarch, praying for many more years of good health, strength, and continued service to his community and the nation.
