The Onodugo Progressives Movement (OPM) has named Senator Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu, popularly known as Onodugo, as the leading contender for the Anambra South Senatorial District seat ahead of the 2027 general election, citing his grassroots appeal, people-oriented leadership style, and development-driven vision.
The declaration was made by Elder Ogbonna Amaechi, Secretary-General of the support group, during a ward-to-ward sensitisation tour across the district aimed at mobilising support and gauging political sentiment.
Speaking in Ukpor, within Nnewi South Local Government Area, Amaechi said Senator Nwachukwu’s growing acceptance across communities has positioned him as the clear favourite in the race.
According to him, the senator’s popularity is rooted not in political rhetoric but in a longstanding reputation for humility, accessibility, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
Amaechi noted that Nwachukwu’s name continues to resonate strongly among community leaders, youth groups, women associations, and grassroots political structures throughout Anambra South, reflecting widespread goodwill and trust.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, Senator Nwachukwu is increasingly becoming a central figure in political discussions across the district. Observers say his influence stems less from political noise and more from what supporters describe as visionary representation and a steady commitment to the welfare of constituents across the zone’s seven local government areas.
Amaechi further stated that one of the senator’s strongest distinguishing qualities is his deep and consistent relationship with the grassroots, a connection he said has remained intact beyond election seasons.
“What sets Senator Nwachukwu apart is his sustained engagement with the people. Unlike politicians who surface only during elections, Onodugo has remained connected to the struggles, aspirations, and daily realities of the people,” he said.
He added that this compassion and accessibility have earned the senator admiration across party lines.
The OPM Secretary-General also highlighted Nwachukwu’s capacity to drive development and deliver effective representation, expressing confidence that residents believe he possesses the experience, exposure, and strategic mindset needed to attract empowerment programmes, infrastructure projects, and youth opportunities to the district.
Amaechi concluded that the increasing support recorded during the mobilisation tour reflects growing confidence in the senator’s leadership potential.
