2027: Kebbi Gov begs FG to reduce hardship on Nigerians

From Shuaibu Zubair Tatu, Birnin Kebbi

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has urged the Federal Government to expand interventions aimed at reducing the economic hardship facing Nigerians, particularly in food production, transportation, small businesses, rural livelihoods, energy, social protection and security.

Idris made the call on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi after a meeting of first-term governors seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the governors had resolved to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through improved performance in their respective states rather than propaganda.

“We urge the Federal Government to continue expanding interventions that will directly reduce hardship, especially in food production, transportation, small businesses, rural livelihoods, energy, social protection and security,” he said.

According to the governor, the APC governors recognised that their support for President Tinubu must be matched by tangible achievements at the state level.

“We shall not merely ask Nigerians to support the President; we shall give them reasons to believe by working harder to deliver visible results and ensuring that Federal Government reforms translate into local benefits,” he stated.

Idris said the governors had committed themselves to taking bold actions in agriculture and food security, rural development, infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, security collaboration, investment promotion, revenue generation, job creation and transparent governance.

He noted that the forum commended President Tinubu for taking what it described as difficult but necessary decisions in the national interest.

The governor added that the APC governors agreed that their re-election campaigns would be anchored on performance rather than propaganda.

“We resolved that our re-election efforts shall be anchored on performance, not propaganda; service, not sentiment; unity, not division; and results, not noise. We shall return to our people, present our records, listen to their concerns, correct our shortcomings and seek their continued trust in the interest of stability,” he said.

Idris stressed that the country’s challenges extended beyond elections, saying the priority should be protecting democracy, improving security, boosting food production, creating jobs for young people and ensuring long-term prosperity for Nigerians.

A total of 16 first-term governors attended the meeting, while four governors seeking second terms were absent.
