The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its National Campaign Council for the November 27, 2026, Osun State governorship election, with party leaders describing the poll as a critical test of the party’s strength and preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the party had assembled a campaign council comprising governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, deputy governors, former elected officials and other stakeholders to mobilise resources and coordinate efforts towards reclaiming Osun State.
Yilwatda said the APC remained Nigeria’s most formidable political party, citing its large pool of experienced politicians and elected officials across the country.
“If there is any political party in Nigeria that has human resources in abundance, it is the APC. If there is any political party that has the most experienced politicians in Nigeria, it is the APC,” he said.
The national chairman described the Osun governorship election as the last major electoral contest before the 2027 general election, calling it a “litmus test” for the party’s political machinery.
“We will do person-to-person campaigns. We will go house to house,” Yilwatda said, adding that the party would also prioritise the mobilisation of women voters through its Directorate of Women Affairs.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated council, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State pledged that members would justify the confidence reposed in them and work collectively to secure victory for the APC and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
Uzodimma described the assignment as a “solemn obligation” to the party, democracy and the people of Osun State, stressing that unity within the APC would be critical to the success of the campaign.
“Our assignment is clear: to listen to the people of Osun State, speak to their hopes and aspirations, earn their confidence and convince them to vote for the APC and our governorship candidate,” he said.
He said the campaign would be issue-based, evidence-driven and focused on the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and progressive governments across APC-controlled states.
The governor also pledged that the council would conduct a peaceful campaign, saying it would respond to opposition criticism “with facts,” while rejecting violence, intimidation and misinformation.
In his remarks, APC governorship candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji thanked President Bola Tinubu, the party’s National Working Committee and members of the campaign council for their support, saying party members across Osun had welcomed the composition of the council with enthusiasm.
Oyebamiji said the APC had spent months taking its message of prosperity, good governance and the Renewed Hope Agenda to communities across the state’s three senatorial districts, 30 local government areas, 332 wards and 3,762 polling units.
He claimed that residents were ready for a change in government, arguing that the state needed to align with the economic reforms and development agenda of the Federal Government.
