The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has hailed the Court of Appeal’s judgment setting aside the Federal High Court’s decision that sought to deregister the party, describing the verdict as a major victory for democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, Mark said the appellate court’s ruling had not only vindicated the ADC but also reinforced confidence in Nigeria’s judiciary as the guardian of democratic values.
According to the former Senate President, the judgment reaffirms the courts’ role as the last hope of the common man and demonstrates the judiciary’s ability to protect political pluralism and constitutional rights.
“The verdict is a reassuring reminder that our judiciary can still rise above pressure and protect democracy, political pluralism and the constitutional rights of citizens and political parties,” Mark said.
He described the attempt to deregister the ADC as an assault on Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and an effort to undermine citizens’ constitutional right to freely associate and participate in the political process.
Mark commended the Justices of the Court of Appeal for what he described as their courage, impartiality and commitment to justice, adding that the ruling would further strengthen public confidence in the nation’s democratic institutions.
The ADC national chairman urged party members, candidates and supporters across the country to remain united and focused on the party’s mission of providing credible leadership and good governance.
He said the legal victory should inspire members to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Our attention now returns fully to building a stronger, more united and people-oriented political platform that will offer Nigerians a credible alternative in 2027. We must remain steadfast, disciplined and committed to the task ahead,” he said.
Mark also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democracy, the rule of law and peaceful political participation, assuring Nigerians that the ADC would continue to pursue policies aimed at promoting national unity, security, economic prosperity and justice.
