The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has condemned Governor Ademola Adeleke over comments it said he made against President Bola Tinubu during a campaign outing, describing the remarks as reckless, inflammatory and a sign of desperation ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, the APC alleged that Governor Adeleke threatened that Osun State could witness a repeat of the 1983 political crisis if he loses the election and also accused the President of withholding federal allocations meant for the state’s 30 local government areas.
The campaign council dismissed the allegations as false, irresponsible and unsubstantiated, insisting that the governor was attempting to blackmail the President because of what it described as his growing fear of electoral defeat.
It maintained that President Tinubu remained committed to constitutional governance and the rule of law, adding that the statutory allocations due to the legally recognised local government administration in Osun State were being released as required.
The APC further accused the Adeleke administration of presiding over political violence, alleging that more than 30 APC members and supporters had been killed since 2022 by individuals it described as thugs linked to the government. It also claimed that some suspected criminals had been released and were being used to intimidate and attack members of the opposition, while alleging that certain wanted persons were being harboured by the administration.
The council also levelled allegations of financial misconduct against the governor, claiming that his administration would have to account for the management of over ₦1 trillion in state revenue, the alleged diversion of a ₦2 billion Federal Government grant released in 2023 for the procurement of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, and the utilisation of ₦17 billion in ecological funds received in 2024 and 2025. It did not provide evidence to support the allegations.
Calling on Governor Adeleke to refrain from what it described as inflammatory rhetoric, the APC urged him to accept the outcome of the forthcoming governorship election peacefully if defeated. The council expressed confidence that the electorate would vote for the APC candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), whom it said represents responsible, transparent and people-oriented leadership.
