The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) has condemned the suspicious death of Elder Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, a prominent leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church, whose lifeless body was discovered in a hotel room in Akungba-Akoko.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Director-General of the NTDA, Mr. Ola Awakan, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the deceased’s family, the C&S Church, and residents of the Akungba-Akoko community.
Awakan said the tragic incident has raised serious concerns about safety and security within Nigeria’s hospitality industry, stressing that the circumstances surrounding Fajana’s death require urgent clarification.
According to him, reports concerning the handling of the deceased’s remains without proper medical certification, alongside allegations of suspicious activity, have heightened concerns about possible foul play.
“Such events undermine public confidence in the hospitality sector and cannot be tolerated,” Awakan said.
He commended the Ondo State Police Command for swiftly arresting three suspects linked to the case, while calling for a thorough, transparent, and professional investigation.
“We urge law enforcement authorities to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this death, track the unauthorized movement of the body, and expose any possible lapses or complicity,” he stated.
The NTDA boss emphasized that ensuring justice is critical to restoring public confidence and preventing negligence or criminal acts within the tourism and hospitality sector.
Awakan also reassured the public that guest safety remains a top priority for the Authority, noting that the NTDA is working closely with law enforcement and other security agencies to strengthen safety measures for tourists and visitors across the country.
He disclosed that the Authority would intensify nationwide monitoring exercises in collaboration with state governments to ensure strict compliance with safety standards in hospitality establishments.
Awakan reaffirmed the NTDA’s commitment to partnering with hotel operators, security agencies, and community leaders to promote a safer and more secure tourism environment in Nigeria.
