RHI @ 3: First Lady charges girls to dream big

By Chesa Chesa

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged girls and young women across the country to dream big, emphasizing that vision, discipline, and preparation are critical ingredients for success.

She made the call on Tuesday during the commemoration of three years of impact of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where she highlighted the programme’s achievements in empowering vulnerable groups and improving livelihoods.

Addressing participants at the event themed “Our Stories, Her Impact,” Senator Tinubu encouraged young people, especially girls, to cultivate a strong sense of purpose and ambition.

“Dreaming is what keeps any human being going. If you sit and don’t have a dream, a vision of what you want to become, it becomes very tough for you,” she said.

The First Lady noted that the Dream Girls Initiative, introduced under the FCT structure of RHI, reflects her commitment to helping girls build confidence, ambition, and character. She also stressed the importance of etiquette and protocol, saying such skills are essential in public life.

“You have to learn a lot of things about etiquette and protocol because you don’t know when you will be called upon to do something,” she added.

Reflecting on the journey of the initiative, Senator Tinubu said RHI was created to improve livelihoods, empower vulnerable groups, and create opportunities for better living standards.

According to her, the initiative began on July 7, 2023, with its inaugural meeting at the State House before quickly expanding outreach to communities in need.

She recalled that the first major intervention came on July 13, 2023, when the initiative supported victims of the flood disaster at Trademoore Estate in Lugbe, Abuja. She added that RHI was officially registered on August 9, 2023, to complement President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through people-centered programmes.

“At the heart of every intervention, every programme, and every outreach, is a person whose life has been touched, a family that has found succour and support, or a community that has been empowered,” she said.
