Inspector General of Police (IGP) represented by the Deputy Inspector- General of Police in Charge of South-East Zone, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie,(DIG) on Tuesday led a strategic stakeholders’ engagement on security in Anambra State.
The exercise is aimed at strengthening collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, government representatives, community leaders, and other critical stakeholders for sustainable peace, security, and public safety.
The engagement which is being held in different geopolitical zones in the country, is in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu (IGP) to provide a platform for participants to deliberate on prevailing security challenges in the State,.
The engagement is also aimed at identifying emerging threats, and proffer practical solutions geared towards enhancing intelligence sharing, community participation, and coordinated security responses.
Speaking during the engagement, DIG Onwuemelie emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing security concerns, noting that effective policing thrives on the support and cooperation of the public.
He urged stakeholders to sustain their partnership with security agencies through timely information sharing and active participation in community-based security initiatives.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police at the end of the engagement with stakeholders, paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Awka Kingdom, HRM, Igwe Gibson Nwosu (Eze Uzu II of Awka).
The Royal father commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts in maintaining security across the State and assured the DIG of the continued support and cooperation of the traditional institution in fostering a safer and more secure environment for residents.
The engagement was attended by Heads of other security agencies, Secretary to Anambra State Government (SSG) Anambra State Traditional Council, Members of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Transporters Association, Anambra Chapter of NUJ, members of Civil Society Organisations, and members of Northern Community in Anambra State.
