By George Coben, Bauchi

The gubernatorial candidate of the allied peoples movement, APM, in Bauchi state, Dr. Yakubu Adamu, has called for collective responsibility among leaders, organisations and individuals, in supporting victims of natural disasters.

Dr. Yakubu made the call in separate sympathy visits to affected communities of flood disaster in Bara, Kirfi LGA, and windstorm victims in Shira LGA, of the state, where he reportedly donated #11 million and #10 million, respectively, as relief package.

The APM gubernatorial candidate who expressed solidarity with the residents for the devastating losses incurred from such disasters, said that leadership is not only about making promises but about showing genuine concern by responding to the needs of the people when they need them most.

While saying that natural disasters such as floods and windstorm can create serious challenges for communities, he noted that collective efforts from relevant authorities, organisations, and well-meaning individuals to assist disaster victims are vital in rebuilding affected ones.

“I assure you, all affected families, that you are not alone. The financial assistance is aimed at providing urgent relief to help you begin the process of recovery,” he stated.

Dr. Adamu prayed Allah to grant the affected families strength, ease their difficulties, and forgive the souls of the departed.

The district head of Bara, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Bara, expressed appreciation for the intervention, on behalf of the community, which he described as timely and impactful.

In Shira LGA, the intervention covered communities such as Dango, Disina, and Zubo, among others, where many families suffered severe damage to their shelters and means of livelihood.

Residents described the intervention as a sign of compassion and commitment towards people facing hardship.

It would be recalled that a heavy rainstorm in Bara, Kirfi LGA caused the death of a grandmother, Aishatu Sagir and her granddaughter, Rahama Sagir, more than 360 houses damaged, livestock killed, farmlands affected, with hundreds of residents displaced, and forced to seek temporary shelter in mosques and schools.
