Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a successful offensive operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the operation was carried out on June 27, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and strengthen security across the North-West.
According to Danja, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that a group of terrorists was planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
He said troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilised to the area and established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route of advance in order to thwart the planned attack.
Danja explained that as the terrorists approached the ambush position, the troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
He noted that the troops’ superior combat effectiveness forced the terrorists into disarray, resulting in the neutralisation of two members of the group, while others fled into the surrounding forest.
Following the encounter, troops conducted an exploitation operation within the area and recovered a cache of arms and other operational items.
Items recovered included AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the terrorists.
The military described the operation as another significant setback for terrorist elements operating in the region and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal groups.
Danja stated that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains unwavering in its resolve to protect the lives and property of law-abiding citizens while denying terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the North-West.
He further urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing counter-terrorism and security operations.
The latest success comes amid intensified military operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in communities affected by terrorism and other forms of criminality across the region.
