FCT-IRS rolls out tax compliance app

By Daniel Tyokua

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has launched Taxporta, a digital tax administration platform to simplify tax compliance.

Speaking at the unveiling of the digital platform in Abuja, on Tuesday, the Executive chairman of the FCT-IRS, Mr. Michael Ango said the initiative is planned to simplify tax compliance by enabling taxpayers to register, file returns, make payments and obtain tax clearance certificates online.

He said the scheme launched during a stakeholders’ engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), is part of the Service’s digital transformation drive and implementation of Nigeria’s 2025 tax reforms.

Ango explained that it would eliminate the need for taxpayers to visit the agency’s offices for most tax-related services, making tax administration faster, more transparent and more convenient.

He described the launch as another milestone in the Service’s digital innovation agenda aimed at improving service delivery and encouraging voluntary tax compliance.

Ango added that, Taxporta enables taxpayers to register, file tax returns, calculate tax liabilities, make payments, generate receipts and obtain Tax Clearance Certificates through a fully integrated online platform.

He added that the portal has been configured to reflect the provisions of the new tax laws by automatically applying all statutory reliefs and allowances once taxpayers upload their income details.

“Any serious institution, whether in the public or private sector, must move with the times. Taxpayers can now access our services from the comfort of their homes or offices without physically visiting our offices.

“Taxpayers simply provide their income information, while the platform computes their tax liabilities, processes payments and generates tax clearance certificates,” he said.
