The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, has said leadership demands solutions, not excuses, as he pledged a renewed focus on technology, intelligence and regional cooperation to tackle Nigeria’s insecurity challenges.
Senator Yar’Adua received the honour recently at the EuroKnowledge Honorary Doctorate Conferral Ceremony held at the House of Lords, London.
He was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership, Governance and National Development by the EuroKnowledge Institute.
Speaking after receiving the award, the Senator representing Katsina Central Senatorial District said he accepted the recognition “with humility.”
“I dedicate this honour absolutely to the good people of Katsina Central whose mandate, prayers, and support made this possible. I also dedicate it to my family, whose sacrifices and encouragement have kept me grounded in service,” he said.
The lawmaker commended the Federal and State Governments for efforts in the last one year to restore security, and praised the “gallantry and resilience” of the Armed Forces.
On the security situation, Yar’Adua blamed the Sahel crisis for the influx of weapons across Nigeria’s borders, describing it as a major driver of insecurity.
“Leadership is not about making excuses. Leadership is about bringing solutions to problems. I am confident that the Government is winning this war,” he stated, adding that going forward, government will leverage technology and regional cooperation to protect citizens.
The EuroKnowledge award recognizes individuals with sustained contributions to national and international development. Past recipients include President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and late OPEC Secretary-General, Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo. The ceremony had dignitaries from Africa, Europe and the diplomatic community in attendance.
