2027: Adeleke’s move, expanding rainbow coalition — Wike

By Daniel Tyokua

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the 2027 presidential election is increasingly tilting in favour of President Bola Tinubu, following the recent political realignment involving Osun State Governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the emergence of a broader Rainbow Coalition in support of the President.

Wike stated this while fielding questions from journalists after inspecting ongoing projects in Abuja on Friday.

The minister explained that the recent meeting between Adeleke and President Tinubu was part of efforts to build a broader political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike said, Adeleke’s decision to secure the Osun governorship ticket on the platform of the Accord Party did not amount to abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), staying the governor-elect remains a PDP member.

He also dismissed claims by members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that their political support contributed significantly to Adeleke’s electoral victory, accusing them of attempting to “harvest where they never planted.”

Wike predicted that more politicians would join the coalition backing President Tinubu in the coming weeks, saying the President’s performance in office had made the 2027 contest increasingly predictable.

The FCT minister further dismissed the notion that Nigeria currently has a formidable opposition capable of mounting a serious challenge to the Tinubu administration in 2027.

Wike said he was unconcerned about the views of opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, regarding the emerging political realignment.
He maintained that his political objective was to ensure that his opponents were thoroughly defeated and politically depleted

“What has happened last night is meeting to rebuild a larger Rainbow Coalition. And he is supporting Mr. President. He’s in a different party; supporting Mr. President, and I am in a different party. So, it’s a larger Rainbow Coalition.

“The next few weeks, watch what is going to happen. You will see a larger Rainbow Coalition in this country supporting Mr. President,” he said.
